What is a CUP&CINO Coffee House?

A CUP&CINO Coffee House is a modern all-day gastronomy concept for locations with 150-250 square meters in cities with at least 50,000 inhabitants. The color palette and materials used in furnishing our coffee houses imbue a high-quality Mediterranean ambience. Instead of self-service, we emphasize the high quality of our establishments through our friendly service and attentive employees.

With each CUP&CINO Coffee House we bring a little Mediterranean flair to our host cities. Meeting people, socializing, enjoying, and relaxing are some of the various reasons for visiting our Coffee Houses. Rather than focusing on a specific target group, we offer a meeting place for both young and old, where everyone feels comfortable. Regardless of whether it is breakfast, a light and healthy midday snack, a cappuccino and tiramisu as a shopping break, or an evening cocktail — there is something for everyone.

So that our partners can achieve optimal turnover in their locations, we have developed the day&night concept. At seven o’clock in the evening the Coffee Houses become Cocktail Bars.
In addition to changing the uniforms, back buffet and lighting, the music is changed and prosecco, wine, cocktails and tap beer become the central focus.

We have full membership in the German Franchising Association (DFV) and therefore have regular exchanges with other successful franchisors from which we learn about the experiences of other systems and concepts. You will benefit from our partnership because we will share these valuable insights with you.

Examined Franchise Contracts

The franchise contract is the legal foundation of our cooperation. The contract is based on Germany franchise law and is examined and recognized by the Kfw-Bank. Of course personal understanding and harmonious communication in daily business are more important than contracts, but it is also good to know that our agreement is legally flawless and that neither partner is at a disadvantage.


Preparation & Financing

Location Selection & Analysis
In the beginning the most important matters are finding the right location and arranging the financing. We support you in finding the right location through our contacts to brokers, breweries, beverage wholesalers, etc. Experience has shown that your knowledge of the local area is very important for finding a location. You will also be actively searching for an appropriate property. Once a location has been found, we will help you negotiate with the landlord and local suppliers, and will see you through the initial bureaucratic steps. Alongside selecting a location, you could also be taking the first steps in arranging the financing.

Performance-based Finance Consulting
There are around 800 different support programs for founders of new businesses — only a professional can keep them all straight. Our head office’s support starts already with the search and selection of a location. We help you negotiate with the landlord, the suppliers and support our new franchisees in navigating the bureaucracy.
As an exclusive service we also offer potential franchisees performance-based finance consulting. Many consultants in this field charge high fees up-front and if the financing falls through, the money is lost. This does not happen with CUP&CINO. Through an agreement with a professional financing consultant an extensive project-specific financing and business plan will be prepared. For this service potential CUP&CINO franchisees pay only a small fee. The customary market price for such a service will only be charged if financing is achieved.

Interior Design

When a suitable location is found and financing is tendered, planning begins for your CUP&CINO coffee house. The floor plan and the furnishings will be constructed by our expert planners according to our concept’s guidelines. This service is included as part of the entry fee. We will also assist you later with the building phase and the coordination of the various construction firms. Because we offer very favorable purchasing terms for equipment, furniture and fixtures, you will save considerably in the construction of your establishment.


Handbook & Training

Extensive Introductory Training
Your preparation is the most important factor for a successful start with your business. We see to it from the beginning that our franchise partners are fit for the daily life of running a business. Through our training in the areas of communication, sales and personnel management we completely prepare you for the new challenges. Even during the planning and construction phase you will visit different operational franchises and will be trained there by already successful franchise partners and head office employees. Beyond that you and your employees will be instructed in the theory and practice of our concept in our training center in Hövelhof. After this you will have most important basic knowledge for running your business.
We don’t, however, leave you by yourself. Just before the opening and for the first week afterwards, 1-2 head office employees will be at your location to energetically help you. A further component of your preparation is training on the job in existing operations.

Even after the opening we always offer our partners further training at either your location or in the head office’s training center.

Comprehensive Electronic Handbook
With the handbook our partners have readily available all the important information for accomplishing the daily tasks. The handbook simply and comprehensively presents product descriptions, daily routines, the various forms, and much more. The handbook is available in either a paper or electronic version.



Products & Purchasing

Large Product Palette
CUP&CINO places great value on quality and this holds true for more than just our coffee specialties. We directly influence the quality and taste of many of our other products. Next to our coffees, our bakery goods, ice creams, jams, salads and dips are made according to our own recipes and under our supervision. We especially ensure that our products are made from natural ingredients and that no conservatives are used. With this approach, we can guarantee that our guests always get optimal quality.  Also, we can immediately react to new trends and create new products.

Central Purchasing
For many of our products we have organized central purchasing with favorable terms so that our partners pay much less for goods and materials than their competitors. The head office administrates the logistics and organizes the delivery from our head office warehouse. The ordering protocol requires only a few minutes each week so that our partners can completely concentrate on their guests.



EDP & Controlling


Proprietary Cash Management /EDP-System
The heart of our controlling is the CUP&CINO EDP. Every establishment is connected to the head office. One of the most important success factors in gastronomy is inventory control. Connecting the cash EDP to the coffee system allows our partners to keep track of almost half their turnover. Daily inventory tracking through integrated merchandise management provides further security.
To ensure the best employee allocation, we offer an EDP-based solution for planning and follow-up control that allows an especially quick overview and points out how to optimize employee time. Controlling personnel costs is another important building block for lasting success.

As of recently CUP&CINO no longer simply plays music from CDs or music computers in its coffee houses. We have instead designed our own radio program in cooperation with the best-known DJs and music editors. With this development we have simultaneously created our own music program and a new advertising medium for our partners which can directly advertise new campaigns.



Support & Communication

Best Practice Benchmarking
After the opening we will remain the contact for all your questions and will support you with regular campaigns, new products and services. Periodic on-site visits also help ensure good communication between the head office and our franchise partners. Through monthly benchmarking of the sales figures and economic operating data, we are able to show our partners additional opportunities for increasing revenues and cutting costs.

ERFA Seminars and Personal Instruction in your Establishment
Why are franchise entrepreneurs so much more successful than entrepreneurs who do it on their own? A decisive reason is the strength of the franchise community. When you run into difficulties, you are not left to solve them by yourself; rather, you can rely on the head office for advice and support.

We also arrange twice yearly ERFA seminars in which our partners can exchange their experiences and discuss innovations.

At regular intervals we will visit your establishment and work with you to optimize workflows, train your employees or plan with you the next campaigns.

Requirements for our Franchisees

In a franchise system the head office and partners share the ongoing tasks at the location and as the number of partners grows a strong community emerges.

We expect our franchise partners to make an engaged effort and to set an example for their employees and guests. The franchise partners are the heart of the business and take care of personnel management, the ordering system and implementing the franchise handbook. The center of attention is always the guest.

Requirements for our partners:

  • Own capital of at least 35 % for invest.
  • Young-minded
  • Between 20 and 50 years old
  • Sales oriented
  • Strong organizational skills

  • Industry experience (optional)

Location Requirements

The CUP&CINO Coffee House concept has been developed for two different types of locations – stand-alone and for integration in shopping malls.

Stand-Alone-Objekt

Macro location

  • Cities with at least 50,000 inhabitants
  • University cities with at least 100,000 inhabitants are ideal
  • High centralization in the region
  • High purchasing power (index above 100)

Micro location

  • In the vicinity of first class shopping areas
  • Close to very good gastronomy locations
  • Equally high frequency whether day or night

The Property

  • Total space between 200 and 300 square meters
    (from which approx. 30 to 40 % is ancillary space)
  • Gastronomy license must be obtainable
  • Opening hours in secondary locations must be until midnight or longer
  • Restrooms for men and women and additionally for staff
  • Ceiling height at least 3 meter
    (lower heights only in exceptional cases)
  • Glass front (foldable)
  • Outside seating must be available (at least 60 % of total space)
  • Good outside advertising possibilities on the facade
  • Parking spaces

 

Integration in shopping malls

Macro location

  • City with at least 100,000 inhabitants
  • High centralization in the region
  • High purchasing power (index above 100)
  • Outlying area of at least 400,000 inhabitants

Micro location

  • Shopping mall with at least 100 outlets
  • At least 25,000 square meters total sales area
  • At least 20,000 daily visitors on average
  • Professional center management and active marketing of the mall

The Property

  • total space between 150 and 250 square meters with at least 50 square meters in the mall
    (from which approx. 30 to 40 % is ancillary space)
